The Summer Solstice was celebrated yesterday at Wimbotsham, near Downham Market, in great style. A Midsummer Fayre took place on Wimbotsham Recreation Ground and was billed as a celebration of Music, Art and Craft to raise funds for the Rec.
There was a fabulous Vintage Cafe set up out on the field, complete with fridge, cafetieres of real coffee, bone china crockery and cakes and scones. The ladies running it did a fab job and kept everyone refreshed. (They were so good I think they should set up in business! They'd make a killing at Vintage Fairs in particular).
The backdrop to the whole event was the Music. Live bands played all day long, there were semi acoustic sets, rock sets, old blues and 70s favourites. It was like a mini Glastonbury without the mud.
Here are some pics of Esme's Buttons' stall. The official facebook page is uploading photos too.
The day finished at 6pm with circle dancing round the 'maypole'. No pics unfortunately as I joined in :( All in all an unforgettable day. The kind of day that stays long in the memory and goes down in the folklore of the village. I'd love to see it repeated, but it was almost too good to try to reproduce. Time will tell.
